Welcome
Welcome to 'Independents Declare'. It's the best I could do for a name. This will be a blog created to see what spaghetti sticks to the wall in the climate debate. The opinions of the author, yours truly, are shaped under a professional mission to watch out for the interests of those supplying capital to public and private utilities. Cap & Trade, or more specifically the regulation of CO2, is a matter of great concern to many. Its administration will have potentially profound effects on our economy. In the analysis of current legislation HR 2434, the allowance structure appears sufficiently lenient upon the coal industry and other users so as not to warrant concern over the next 10 years. The Senate is not apt to follow suit with more stringent requirements given the taller 60 vote threshold that has become so common in US politics. The continued pursuit of what the Senate may do has ultimately lead me across numerous instances of political polarity, all over a piece of legislation I feel is becoming an energy policy worthy of consideration. Entries to the blog will, first, be a reflection of fiduciary duty to those whose capital is at risk, and then they will extend to the debate as seen from the eyes of a utility analyst. I hope others find the perspective interesting and informative and comments from all are welcome.

EDIT: The bill is HR 2454, not HR 2434
